The company continues to operate under the guidance of his two sons, George and James Waitts, and one of the founding partners, Manny Cueli. This year we celebrate our 50th Anniversary. By uniquely satisfying our customers’ needs through innovation, Crown has grown from a small company to an internationally respected enterprise and has served over 5000 customers in 60 countries.
Over the years, the company has grown into a 150,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Crown is a vertically integrated hot stamping foil and laminate manufacturing facility. With 14 coating lines, 5 vacuum metallizers, as well as a fully staffed holographic origination facility, Crown serves the graphics, brand protection, and security documents industries.
Crown Roll Leaf has a tradition of being a leader in innovation. In the early 1970s, hot foil stamping foils were mostly made of gold and metallics and were used on a limited basis, mostly on pens and pencils. Founders Robert Waitts and Manual Cueli saw the market potential of stamped foil to improve the appearance of products in many categories and help customers drive sales. They were among the first to use R&D and new technology to create a rainbow of metallic colors. Development of other products
such as gloss and matte pigments, tints, pearls, and special effect foils soon followed.
Crown has provided foils and solutions for various projects such as Ralph Lauren for their trademark yellow logo, the fluorescent pink foil for Juicy Couture, foils for all the various Harry Potter books, and top-selling authors such as Janet Evanovich and Tom Clancy, to name a few.
Crown has been at the forefront of custom holography, from the November 1985 cover of National Geographic featuring a holographic image of Africa’s Taung Child, where Crown developed the base foil material, to various current commemorative foils for music and sporting events. With an excellent appearance and efficient production with limited waste, The National Geographic cover was considered to be the first commercially successful holographic job in the world.
For the security market, Crown has provided holographic films for various driver’s License projects such as New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio, Kentucky, South Carolina, Louisiana, Maryland, as well as numerous foreign driver’s license and identification card projects. Our holograms have also protected the passports of several countries. All these are through partnerships with leading industry providers such as Entrust DataCard, HIS, Idemia, De La Rue International, Surys, and others.
With thousands of products in inventory, Crown is your single source convenience for holograms holographic diffraction gratings, and hot stamping foils. Customers work with our in-house designers and we take every project from the design stage to finished holographic foils and films. We continue to be a family-owned and operated business and all manufacturing is done in the USA.
Crown will continue to focus on innovation to help us best meet our customers’ needs. We continue to work with industry leaders and partners, transforming and adding value to consumer product packaging and labeling, developing new products for the printing and finishing industry.
